An inspiring story

One of the inspiring experience that I had went through is when I had volunteered for humanity work towards the homeless and less fortunate people around Kuala Lumpur. The organization that I had joined was a non-governmental one called 'Insan Jalanan'. The main goal for this organization was to feed the homeless people, providing them with enough basic necessities and occasionally, attend to problematic teenagers on the streets.

During one of the events, when we needed to cater a group of problematic teenagers, we approached them with a warm welcome and a smile. The teenagers, whom I assumed was around 17-19 of age were just loitering around while smoking. They worn black clothes with conspicuous chains around their necks. There were around four guys and three girls. As my team and I approached them, there were uncomfortable at first but when we said that we wanted nothing more than a chat, they reluctantly agreed.

we asked them about a lot of things from their education to personal life. What I can conclude from this was most of them only manage to study until their spm and they were out working after highschool, no further education. They told us they were either not interested to further their studies or they were too poor to have a proper education and that working is better. We sat down and listen to their problems and offered an ear as they talked. After about an hour or so, we finally managed to get along well and this is when my team and I started to advice them about life and religion etc.

These teenagers, they lack the attention at home and don't have any guidance to do something in their life. I can sense that they were all good people but they just got unlucky in the family department and after a while, we went on and treat them with attention as well as some food. We did a lot of bonding and offered them places were they can go to seek educational and financial help. After that, we went back to our headquarters but it was rather an emotional farewell as they told us that most people don't care about them. This event had made me realized how lucky I am to be born fortunate and having knowing my potential, it made me want to contribute to the society so that every children will have the same chance as most people do.
